fully updated to 10.11.6 and cannot login to messages with Apple ID

I'm fully updated to the most recent update and when opening Messages, there is no option to login with my Apple ID. I go to "add account" and it restricts me to my yahoo account, AIM or Jabber (whatever that is).

I need to login with my apple ID.

Any suggestions?

Thank you!

Presumably you are signed in to your Mac with your Apple ID.

Open the Messages app. Use Messages' menu to go to Messages > Preferences > Accounts. Do you see your Apple ID there? You should.

Assuming you're signed in on that Apple ID line, check "Enable this account".

If the above fails, please explain exactly what you see and what happens.

Hi,

Messages has two accounts already set up (to some extent) which cannot be deleted.

The iMessages one requires you add your Apple ID and Password.

You cannot delete this account - only remove the Apple ID and retype another.

The other is the Bonjour account which by Default is Off (the "Enable this Account" is not ticked).

The Add option in the Messages Menu is only for Jabber (Google) AIM and Yahoo accounts

The + icon button at the bottom of the Accounts list will also get you to the Add Accounts screens.

You cannot add/ Start the iMessages Account from System Preferences > iCloud as Messages and iMessages in not part of iCloud.
